Role Overview
We are recruiting an English Language, Literature & Media Studies Tutor in Abu Dhabi for individualised face-to-face academic support. The tutor should strengthen written expression, close reading and media analysis while helping students produce precise, evidence-based responses.
Teaching Scope
Deliver personalised one-to-one tutoring across English Language, English Literature and Media Studies according to the learner's curriculum, year group, assessment requirements and current attainment.
Teach English Language skills including reading comprehension, language analysis, grammar, vocabulary, sentence control, descriptive and narrative writing, persuasive and transactional writing, and accurate editing.
Teach English Literature through close reading, annotation, literary terminology, themes, character, structure, context, writer's methods, comparison, unseen texts and evidence-based interpretation.
Teach Media Studies concepts including media language, representation, audiences, industries, contexts, ideology, genre, narrative, ownership, regulation and platform-specific conventions where relevant to the specification.
Support analysis of print, advertising, film, television, news, magazines, radio, music video, gaming, online and social media texts where required by the learner's course.
Develop comparative analysis so students can connect language, literary and media choices to purpose, audience, context and effect.
Strengthen academic writing across all three subjects, including thesis statements, analytical paragraphs, quotation and evidence integration, contextual application, comparison and evaluative conclusions.
Teach students to distinguish description from analysis and evaluation, and to use precise subject terminology without forcing formulaic responses.
Prepare students for class assessments, mocks and formal examinations using targeted revision, retrieval practice, past-paper questions, unseen texts and mark-scheme analysis.
Teach exam technique including command words, timing, annotation, planning, evidence selection, comparative structure and extended-response strategy.
Support recognised pathways such as GCSE/IGCSE, A Level, IB MYP/DP and comparable international English or Media Studies programmes where relevant to the tutor's verified experience.
Support coursework or non-exam assessment through teaching, planning, feedback and academic guidance without writing, producing or completing assessed work on the student's behalf.
Provide concise progress feedback identifying strengths, misconceptions, recurring writing issues and clear next priorities.
Minimum Requirements
A recognised degree in English, English Literature, English Language, Media Studies, Communications, Film/Media, Education or a closely related field.
Demonstrable competence to teach English Language, English Literature and Media Studies at the school levels stated in the application.
Minimum 2 years of relevant classroom teaching, tutoring, academic-support or subject-specialist experience.
Experience with at least one recognised international curriculum or examination pathway such as British GCSE/IGCSE/A Level, IB or comparable programmes.
Strong close-reading, textual-analysis, essay-writing and critical-evaluation skills.
Strong understanding of media terminology, representation, audiences, industries and analysis of media texts.
Ability to teach both creative/transactional English Language skills and analytical Literature/Media responses.
Strong professional communication, punctuality, safeguarding awareness and respect for academic integrity.

Reliable personal transportation and willingness to travel to students' homes or approved learning venues in Abu Dhabi.
