English Language Tutor — Dubai

Role Overview

Simone's Tutoring is seeking an experienced English Language Tutor in Dubai to provide personalised face-to-face support. The tutor should be able to strengthen literacy, grammar, vocabulary, comprehension and written expression while adapting lessons to the learner's school curriculum and current level.

Teaching Scope

• Deliver personalised one-to-one English Language tutoring according to the learner's age, curriculum, current attainment and individual language goals.

• Develop reading comprehension through explicit work on vocabulary, inference, retrieval, summarising, comparison, writer's choices and interpretation of increasingly complex texts.

• Strengthen grammar and sentence control, including punctuation, parts of speech, verb forms, agreement, clauses, sentence variety and accurate syntax at the appropriate level.

• Build vocabulary through morphology, word families, context, collocation, synonyms, antonyms and deliberate use of precise academic language.

• Develop writing skills across descriptive, narrative, persuasive, argumentative, explanatory, transactional and analytical forms where relevant to the learner's curriculum.

• Teach planning, paragraphing, cohesion, editing, proofreading and accurate use of spelling, punctuation and grammar.

• Develop speaking and listening through structured discussion, oral explanation, presentation, pronunciation, fluency and confidence where appropriate.

• Support EAL/ESL learners who need stronger foundational English for school access while maintaining age-appropriate academic expectations.

• Teach students to interpret task wording and command words, select relevant evidence and structure clear responses under timed conditions.

• Prepare learners for class assessments, mocks and recognised English Language examinations where these match the tutor's verified experience, including GCSE/IGCSE, Cambridge English Language pathways, IB MYP language work or comparable school programmes.

• Use diagnostic tasks, targeted practice and modelled examples to identify and close specific language and literacy gaps.

• Provide concise progress feedback identifying strengths, recurring errors and clear next priorities.

• Maintain academic-integrity boundaries and do not complete assessed writing, coursework, applications or examinations on the student's behalf.

Minimum Requirements

• A recognised degree in English, English Language, Linguistics, Education, Applied Linguistics, TESOL or a closely related field.

• Minimum 2 years of relevant English teaching, tutoring, EAL/ESL support or academic-language experience.

• Strong command of grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, written expression, spelling and punctuation.

• Ability to teach English Language skills explicitly rather than relying only on general conversation or worksheet completion.

• Experience with at least one recognised school curriculum or examination pathway such as British GCSE/IGCSE, IB, American or another international programme.

• Ability to diagnose whether difficulties arise from reading comprehension, language knowledge, writing structure, grammar, vocabulary or exam technique.

• Ability to adapt teaching for native English speakers, multilingual learners and EAL/ESL students without lowering academic expectations.

• Strong professional communication, punctuality, safeguarding awareness and respect for academic integrity.

• Legal authorisation to provide private tutoring in the UAE and a valid MOHRE Private Tutor Work Permit, or eligibility to obtain the permit before accepting assignments.

• Reliable personal transportation and willingness to travel to students' homes or approved learning venues in Dubai.

Preferred Experience

• Experience teaching English Language in British, IB, American or international schools in Dubai or the wider UAE.

• Experience preparing students for GCSE/IGCSE English Language or comparable school assessments.

• A recognised teaching qualification such as QTS, PGCE, CELTA, TESOL or equivalent is advantageous.

• Experience using diagnostic tasks and targeted feedback to close specific literacy gaps.

• Experience teaching students to edit and improve their own writing rather than depending on tutor correction.

• Confidence balancing curriculum requirements with individual language-development needs.
