Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Phonics Specialist Tutor to help young learners build strong early literacy foundations through systematic, explicit, and evidence-informed phonics instruction.
The successful candidate will deliver personalised lessons that develop phonemic awareness, phonics, decoding, encoding, blending, segmenting, fluency, spelling, vocabulary, and early reading comprehension. Instruction should be engaging, multi-sensory, developmentally appropriate, and aligned with recognised structured literacy practices.
The tutor may support preschool children, Foundation Stage, Kindergarten, Reception, Primary learners, English as an Additional Language (EAL) students, homeschool learners, and children requiring targeted literacy intervention.
Key Responsibilities
Assess each learner's early literacy skills and phonological awareness
Develop personalised phonics intervention programmes
Deliver one-to-one and small-group phonics instruction
Teach phonemic awareness, letter-sound correspondence, blending, segmenting, decoding, encoding, and high-frequency words
Support reading fluency, spelling, handwriting readiness, vocabulary, and comprehension
Use multisensory, systematic, and cumulative teaching approaches
Adapt lessons to different learning profiles and developmental stages
Support learners following British, American, IB Primary Years Programme, UAE MOE, and other international curricula
Monitor progress through ongoing assessment and observation
Provide practical home-reading and phonics strategies for parents
Collaborate with classroom teachers and learning-support specialists where appropriate
Maintain safeguarding, confidentiality, and professional boundaries
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Education, Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, Literacy, Reading, Special Education, or a related field
MOHRE Tutor Permit or eligibility to obtain
Minimum 2 years' experience teaching early literacy or phonics
Strong knowledge of systematic synthetic phonics and structured literacy principles
Excellent spoken and written English
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Literacy, Reading Education, or a related discipline
PGCE, B.Ed., or recognised teaching qualification
Training in programmes such as Read Write Inc., Jolly Phonics, Sounds-Write, Letters and Sounds, Little Wandle, Orton-Gillingham, or other recognised structured literacy approaches
Experience supporting learners with dyslexia or literacy difficulties
Experience teaching EAL learners
Experience within British curriculum schools
UAE Licensing Requirements
Tutors operating in the UAE are required to hold a valid MOHRE Tutor Permit or equivalent work authorisation before providing private tutoring services.
UAE Visa & Work Eligibility
Applicants must hold valid UAE work authorisation through an Employment Visa, Golden Visa, Green Visa, Freelance Permit, Dependent Visa with legal work eligibility, or another recognised UAE work authorisation.
