English & Mathematics Tutor — Sharjah

Role Overview

Simone's Tutoring is looking for an English & Mathematics Tutor in Sharjah who can provide structured, engaging one-to-one tuition. Sessions should develop accurate English, confident reading and writing, secure mathematical foundations and increasingly independent problem solving.

Teaching Scope

• Deliver personalised one-to-one tutoring in both English and Mathematics according to the learner's curriculum, year group, current attainment and individual goals.

• Teach English reading comprehension including retrieval, inference, vocabulary in context, summarising, comparison and interpretation of age-appropriate texts.

• Teach English grammar, spelling, punctuation, sentence structure, vocabulary development and accurate written expression.

• Develop English writing across narrative, descriptive, persuasive, explanatory, transactional and analytical forms where relevant to the learner's curriculum.

• Support speaking and listening, oral explanation, academic vocabulary and confidence where appropriate.

• Teach Mathematics foundations including number sense, place value, arithmetic, fractions, decimals, percentages, ratio and proportion at the appropriate level.

• Teach algebraic thinking and algebra including patterns, expressions, equations, inequalities, functions and sequences where relevant to the learner's stage.

• Teach geometry and measurement including shape properties, angles, perimeter, area, volume, coordinates and transformations where required.

• Teach statistics, probability, graphs, tables and data interpretation at the appropriate curriculum level.

• Develop mathematical reasoning, multi-step problem solving and word-problem comprehension so learners can translate language into mathematical operations and models.

• Address cross-subject difficulties such as weak reading comprehension affecting Maths word problems or weak numeracy affecting interpretation of data in written tasks.

• Prepare learners for class assessments, mocks and formal examinations through targeted revision, retrieval practice, past-paper questions and error analysis.

• Support recognised curricula such as British, IB, American, UAE or CBSE/ICSE pathways only where these match the tutor's verified experience.

• Provide concise progress feedback identifying strengths, misconceptions and clear next priorities in each subject.

• Maintain academic-integrity boundaries and do not complete assessed work, homework submissions, coursework or examinations on the student's behalf.

Minimum Requirements

• A recognised degree in Education, English, Mathematics, Primary Education, Secondary Education or a closely related field.

• Demonstrable competence to teach both English and Mathematics at the school levels stated in the application.

• Minimum 2 years of relevant classroom teaching, tutoring or academic-support experience.

• Experience with at least one recognised curriculum or examination pathway such as British, IB, American, UAE, CBSE or ICSE.

• Strong English literacy skills including grammar, comprehension, vocabulary and written expression.

• Strong Mathematics knowledge appropriate to the levels offered, including arithmetic, problem solving and curriculum-specific concepts.

• Ability to diagnose whether a learner's difficulty comes from subject knowledge, language comprehension, procedure, reasoning, written organisation or exam technique.

• Ability to adapt explanations and practice for different attainment levels while maintaining appropriate challenge.

• Strong professional communication, punctuality, safeguarding awareness and respect for academic integrity.

• Legal authorisation to provide private tutoring in the UAE and a valid MOHRE Private Tutor Work Permit, or eligibility to obtain the permit before accepting assignments.

• Reliable personal transportation and willingness to travel to students' homes or approved learning venues in Sharjah.

Preferred Experience

• Strong experience teaching both literacy and numeracy.

• Experience supporting British, IB, American, CBSE/ICSE or comparable curricula.

• Experience helping multilingual or EAL learners understand mathematical vocabulary and word problems.

• Experience creating coordinated learning plans across both English and Mathematics rather than treating each subject in isolation.

• Experience using diagnostic tasks and targeted practice to close specific literacy and numeracy gaps.

• Confidence adapting lesson balance according to which subject needs greater attention at a particular stage.
