Geography Tutor — Online

Role Overview

Simone's Tutoring is seeking an experienced Geography Tutor to deliver personalised online tuition to learners studying Geography across school and pre-university levels. The tutor should be able to make physical, human and environmental geography clear and engaging while strengthening subject knowledge, geographical skills and exam performance.

Teaching Scope

• Deliver individualised online Geography lessons aligned with each student's curriculum, school course, examination board and current attainment level.

• Support physical geography topics such as tectonic processes, weather and climate, rivers, coasts, ecosystems, natural hazards and environmental change.

• Support human geography topics such as population, migration, urbanisation, development, economic activity, globalisation, resource management and sustainability.

• Develop geographical skills including map reading, scale, coordinates, graphs, photographs, diagrams, data interpretation, source analysis and spatial reasoning.

• Teach students how to use case studies effectively and connect evidence to geographical concepts rather than memorising disconnected facts.

• Support fieldwork methodology, enquiry questions, sampling, data collection, data presentation, analysis, evaluation and limitations where required by the student's course.

• Develop extended-response and essay-writing skills, including command words, structured arguments, evidence, evaluation and conclusions.

• Teach exam technique, time management, mark-scheme awareness and strategies for improving performance in short-answer, data-response and extended-writing questions.

• Support revision planning, topic consolidation, school assessments, coursework preparation where permitted, mock exams and final examination preparation.

• Use online maps, satellite imagery, interactive geographical resources and GIS tools where appropriate to the student's level and curriculum.

• Provide concise progress feedback identifying strengths, misconceptions and the next priorities for study.

Minimum Requirements

• A recognised degree in Geography, Geography Education, Environmental Science or a closely related discipline with substantial Geography content.

• Minimum 2 years of relevant Geography teaching, tutoring, academic-support or classroom experience.

• Strong subject knowledge across both physical and human geography.

• Experience teaching at least one recognised school curriculum or examination pathway such as British GCSE/IGCSE/A Level, IB MYP/DP, American/AP or an equivalent international curriculum.

• Strong understanding of geographical skills, data interpretation, case-study application and extended-response writing.

• Ability to diagnose misconceptions and explain geographical processes clearly using diagrams, maps, examples and structured questioning.

• Professional communication, punctuality, safeguarding awareness and appropriate academic-integrity boundaries.

• Reliable high-speed internet, webcam, microphone and a suitable professional environment for online tuition.

• Confidence using screen sharing, digital annotation, online maps and shared documents to make remote lessons interactive rather than lecture-based.

Preferred Experience

• Experience preparing students for GCSE, IGCSE, A Level, IB Geography or AP Human Geography examinations.

• Experience teaching multiple international curricula or examination boards.

• Familiarity with GIS, digital mapping, satellite imagery or other geographical technologies.

• Experience supporting EAL learners while maintaining appropriate subject-language expectations.

• A track record of helping students improve geographical writing, data-response technique and exam confidence.

• Experience delivering engaging online lessons using maps, diagrams, images, virtual fieldwork and interactive resources.
