Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and passionate O Level / IGCSE English Tutor to prepare students for Cambridge IGCSE, Cambridge O Level, Pearson Edexcel International GCSE, OxfordAQA International GCSE, and equivalent English Language and English Literature qualifications.
The successful candidate will deliver personalised lessons that strengthen reading comprehension, analytical thinking, essay writing, grammar, vocabulary, literary analysis, examination technique, and communication skills. The tutor should have extensive experience teaching prescribed texts, poetry, prose, drama, transactional writing, descriptive writing, narrative writing, summary writing, comprehension, and language analysis in accordance with the relevant examination board.
Applicants should clearly indicate the examination boards, specifications, and English qualifications they are experienced in teaching.
Key Responsibilities
Assess students' English proficiency, learning gaps, examination readiness, and target grades
Develop personalised examination-preparation programmes
Deliver one-to-one and small-group English Language and English Literature tuition
Prepare students for Cambridge O Level, Cambridge IGCSE, Pearson Edexcel International GCSE, OxfordAQA, and equivalent qualifications
Teach reading comprehension, literary analysis, grammar, vocabulary, sentence structure, punctuation, and spelling
Develop analytical essay writing, transactional writing, narrative writing, descriptive writing, and summary-writing skills
Teach poetry, prose, drama, and prescribed literary texts
Explain examination mark schemes, assessment objectives, and examiner expectations
Use official syllabi, examiner reports, specimen papers, and past papers
Conduct timed writing practice, mock examinations, and structured feedback sessions
Develop independent revision strategies, annotation techniques, note-making, and planning skills
Support learners transitioning between international curricula
Monitor progress and communicate regularly with parents
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in English, English Literature, Linguistics, Education, Journalism, Communications, or a related field
MOHRE Tutor Permit or eligibility to obtain
Minimum 3 years' experience teaching secondary English
Experience preparing students for O Level, IGCSE, or equivalent examinations
Excellent written and spoken English
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in English, Education, or a related discipline
PGCE, B.Ed., QTS, or recognised teaching qualification
Cambridge, Pearson, or OxfordAQA examiner experience
Experience in British curriculum schools
Proven record of improving examination results
Experience teaching both English Language and English Literature
UAE Licensing Requirements
Tutors operating in the UAE are required to hold a valid MOHRE Tutor Permit or equivalent work authorisation before providing private tutoring services.
UAE Visa & Work Eligibility
Applicants must hold valid UAE work authorisation through an Employment Visa, Golden Visa, Green Visa, Freelance Permit, Dependent Visa with legal work eligibility, or another recognised UAE work authorisation.
